TMA’s middle school math department held Pi Day to celebrate the concept of pi and all things circular! Students participated in competitions like Pi Pong (a table ping pong challenge), Pi Madness (a basketball challenge), and Pop Goes the Pi (a competition to blow the largest circumference of a bubble using a straw and bubble solution). Other fun activities included hoola hooping, crafts, and writing a Pi-Ku (a haiku style poem about circles). The celebration was topped off by eating circular foods! It’s interesting to note that the Bible makes an indirect reference to the value of pi in 1 Kings 7:23 when describing a circular basin that has a ten cubit diameter and a thirty cubic circumference.
