Middle School parents:

Many preparations are underway for the 2014-2015 school year and we are looking forward to having the campus filled with our wonderful TMA students and families soon! If this is your first year in the middle school…Welcome! I want you to know that your child will be taught by passionate teachers who are genuinely interested in their students’ personal growth and have devoted their lives to support that goal.  Our desire is to prepare each student for the challenges of high school and ultimately to carry out God’s plan for his or her life.  Please take a moment to read the following important information:

Middle School Retreat

All middle school students will be participating in our annual retreat on Friday, August 15 – Information on the details of the retreat along with the online permission slip are available in Renweb Web Forms. Please complete your registration by July 16 for your student to participate.

Koinonia/theme shirts may be ordered on the same RenWeb Web Form as the retreat sign-up.  Please note that the Koinonia and theme shirt are the same shirt (not separate as in previous years).  Students will wear the Koinonia/theme shirt on Wednesdays. New TMA Families can learn more about Middle School Koinonia through the Middle School Retreat RenWeb Web Form.

8th Grade Lock-In

ALL 8th graders are invited to the 8th grade LOCK-IN on Friday, August 1 –  Information on the details of the retreat along with the online permission slip are available in Renweb Web Forms. Please complete your registration by July 16 for your student to participate.

As we have watched our high school benefit from using ipads and iphones in class, we are going to begin allowing middle school students to use their technology in various classrooms at the discretion of the teacher; students must refrain from using devices between classes, lunch and in other settings where the teacher has not given them specific permission.

Dress Code

All dress code policies are outlined in our Parent/Student Handbook. In the past students and parents have had questions specifically regarding length and tightness of shorts and skirts for girls and short styles and athletic shirts for boys. As a reminder students need to be in their Dennis uniform every day, with the exception of Wednesday when they may wear their Theme/Koinonia shirt with their Dennis shorts or pants. Please note that we are going to make a concerted effort to enforce the dress code - please partner with us as we follow the guidelines printed in the handbook.

We are beginning a new program called SPARK. We will designate one week each semester to spend time on topics like conflict management, love languages, and areas of enrichment.  During the first semester, SPARK week will be during SPIRIT week and all middle school students will be involved in five different topics.  Then second semester, SPARK week will be in February and the focus for the 7th and 8th graders is travel as the 7th graders attend Driftwood for a three day, two night science adventure and our 8th graders travel to Washington DC for a week. Sixth graders will be involved in other enrichment on campus.

The yearbooks for upper school students will be available for purchase online beginning August 11 for $50.00. This early bird price won't last long, order your copy now.

Make sure to keep up with all the important events throughout the school year by visiting our website often. As always, we are here to help you in any way we can. Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can assist you as we prepare for a great year to come!
