A Visit From Our Local Heroes
As part of the history unit on communities, second graders enjoyed a visit from our local heroes - policemen and firemen! The children loved sitting in a real police car and fire truck, learning about bike, home, and fire safety, when and why to call 911, what it's like to work in these professions and their favorite.. learning about the tools of the trade. They were intrigued by the taser gun, handcuffs, and baton on the deputy's belt and loved watching one of the firemen don his suit and gear to fight a fire. Back in class we discussed what a blessing and example they are to all of us by putting their lives in harm's way to protect and serve others. What a great reminder to include these brave men and women in our daily prayers!
